The preparation process of ternary material precursors for lithium-ion batteries involves multiple key steps. First, we need to prepare raw materials, such as nickel sulfate, cobalt sulfate and manganese sulfate, etc. These raw materials are dissolved in deionized water in a dissolving kettle, heated to the required temperature and stirred for a certain period of time to make a solution. The solution is then transported via pumps and pipes to the corresponding sulfate storage tanks.
Next, the preparation process usually uses a co-precipitation wet process. In this step, sodium hydroxide solution is added to adjust the pH value of the reaction system, and at the same time, inert gas nitrogen is introduced to prevent metal ions from being oxidized. The temperature of the reactor is controlled by steam heating to ensure the continuous production of precursor intermediates.
The resulting precipitate needs to be filtered to remove impurities and washed multiple times with deionized water until no sulfate residues remain. This is usually done by using a BaCl2 solution for testing. When the filtrate no longer appears as a white precipitate, it means that the sulfate radicals have been fully removed.
The cleaned precipitate is placed in a vacuum oven and dried at a specific temperature (such as 80°C), and finally the precursor of the ternary material - ternary carbonate is obtained. This precursor is a key intermediate product for further preparation of ternary materials for lithium-ion batteries.
It should be noted that the conversion rate of sulfate is closely related to the concentration of reactants, the ratio between reactants and the temperature of the reaction. Therefore, during the preparation process, these parameters need to be strictly controlled to ensure the quality and performance of the precursors.
Finally, after adjusting the proportions of raw materials such as precursors and lithium carbonate, the final lithium-ion battery ternary material is prepared through closed mixing and sintering steps.
