Battery preheating technology is an important link in battery thermal management, mainly for power lithium-ion batteries. In a low-temperature environment, the activity of the positive and negative electrode materials of the battery and the conductivity of the electrolyte will be reduced, which will cause the battery charging time to be prolonged, the battery to be more difficult to fully charge, and the battery to lose power faster during the discharge process. In order to solve these problems, engineers developed battery preheating systems and thermal management systems.

There are many ways to preheat the battery, mainly including external heating and internal heating. External heating is to increase the battery temperature as quickly as possible through additional heating devices, such as using a thermistor or electric heating film for preheating. Internal heating uses alternating current to directly stimulate the chemicals inside the battery, causing the battery itself to heat up. In addition, there is a natural heating method that uses the heat generated by the battery itself to increase the temperature. However, this method is slow and has been abandoned by mainstream OEMs.

In addition to heating methods, battery preheating also involves the overall design of the thermal management system. For example, the liquid cooling temperature control system can cool the power battery pack at high temperatures and heat it at low temperatures according to the overall thermal management requirements. Through these measures, it is possible to ensure that the battery can maintain stable performance and safety in various usage environments.
